Linda Jo McCaffrey, affectionately known as Nonnie, passed away at 71 years old, peacefully on May 5, 2024, with her devoted daughter, Meaghan, at her side. Linda was a beautiful expression of kindness, grace, and compassion. She had a strong appreciation of beauty and a love of family and friends, freely giving herself to them. She was always quick to express gratitude for the full life she lived, surrounded by her family, friends, and wonderful life experiences. She was known as Chef Nonnie to the children who attended Little Tigers Learning Center for many years. She used her cooking skills and creative imagination to create a delicious breakfast and lunch daily for the children who attended.

Linda was born on April 2, 1953, to Allen and Joan Held in Leominster, Mass. She attended school there and received her BA in Speech Pathology from Worcester State University. Linda loved everything about Boston, including watching the Boston Red Sox play at Fenway Park and the best seafood ever. In 1978, Linda moved with her family to Texas, where she settled in and began to create a life of selfless giving to her children, family, and the community she loved and lived in.

Linda was a passionate mother, grandmother, and friend to many. When she wasn’t doting on her family with warmth and kindness, she volunteered as an active member of the Somervell History Foundation, Glen Rose Preservation Commission, PEO, Suicide Prevention Awareness Foundation, Paluxy Children Advocacy Center, and the founder of Did It! Linda’s passion for children and her community became her legacy. She will truly be missed in future endeavors but remembered as a loving, generous, intelligent, wise, and beautiful woman who brought joy to the hearts of those she encountered.

Predeceased by her parents, Linda’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her devoted daughter, Meaghan Oates, Tad; her beloved son, Ryan McCaffrey; her grand-children Ava, Alice, and Moxon; her brothers, Matthew Held and Michael Held, and Lynn; her sisters, Holly Held and Cynthia McCurry, and John; cousins; nieces; nephews; and a community that was better for her presence.

Services to honor and celebrate the life of Linda “Nonnie” McCaffrey will be held on June 29, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Barnard’s Mill, located at 307 SW Barnard Street, Glen Rose, Texas. Pastor Mary Collier will be the officiant. Immediately following the service, the family would like attendees to stay and enjoy light refreshments while sharing joyous memories of Linda with them. They are also requesting, in place of flowers, donations in Linda’s name to the following organizations: Barnard’s Mill, Suicide Prevention Awareness Foundation, and Paluxy Children’s Advocacy Center.
